Women in Capital Markets (WCM) was founded in 1995, to increase gender diversity across the Canadian financial sector. OMERS is proud to be among the many Canadian financial institutions supporting WCM in its work, particularly as it relates to helping bring wider diversity to the financial sector’s talent pipeline.

Our involvement with WCM takes various forms, including through OMERS senior leaders taking part in WCM-organized panels and events. We have also been supportive of WCM’s efforts to build a strong network of like-minded organizations, including its work related to the Canadian Gender and Good Governance Alliance.

In recognition of OMERS’ efforts in driving greater gender diversity in financial markets, WCM jointly awarded OMERS and RBC a Women in Capital Markets Award for Excellence in Innovation. This award was in recognition of our partnership with RBC in launching Canada’s first Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) that focuses on gender diversity on boards and in C-suite roles in Canada.

As we said at the time of the ETF’s launch in March 2018, “OMERS was founded on the belief that ‘together, we are stronger. That belief continues to guide us in our inclusion and diversity efforts.”
